The Hudson Review: Loggia

“Helm Contemporary showed “Loggia,” recent works by Kim Uchiyama, distillations of her responses to classical architecture, seen in bright Mediterranean light, into subtle geometric relationships and frankly gorgeous hues…Despite the elusive references to architecture, there’s no sense of figure and ground, but, rather, an affirmation of the continuous surface of the canvas, syncopated by color…The apparent simplicity and seemingly graspable logic of Uchiyama’s severe, seductive paintings are deceptive. There’s a lot to look at that demands and rewards long, close attention.”
